Shucks, after purchasing hefty software such as Photoshop CS4, this is cheap! At this cheap rate, I chose to purchase two licenses, one for my desktop and the other for my laptop. The license permits you to download any or all their software (not just the Video Editor) and use it on that machine. The license stays with one machine so each machine you use will need its own license.

At this time, there is a special running on the Unlimited in which it is priced at $59 (until January 10, 2011). Either you can choose to subscribe for a year at a time or you can purchase an unlimited access for $199. They have a very interesting pricing model. Their website permits one to download a copy of the editor. Right down my alley! AVS Video EditorĪfter playing with several editors, I chanced upon this one. It is something that can take a lifetime to perfect. Either way, there is at least one editor that someone can find mostly usable for their specific needs.Įditing video permits taking pieces of large runs of otherwise boring video sequences and combining then in new and interesting ways. They vary in effects, effectiveness, and computing horsepower needed to accomplish their tasks. There are free editors, cheap editors, medium-priced editors, and premium editors. As recently as today, a friend at work pointed me at DivX Pro.

Oh, what a difference today! There are countless video editing packages out there. This is one of the things that really turned me off from video because to edit non-digital tape was not a trivial matter (not in terms of equipment and monetary outlay). As a still photographer, I would never have been caught dead without having my own film and print lab in the old days, and certainly would not publish anything that has not been through a basic workflow in Photoshop. The principal difference between video back in my 8mm video tape days and now is the relative ease of editing videos. What began as a lark a week ago when I used my daughter’s Samsung video camera became something much larger. I researched video cameras and started to learn some of the strengths and liabilities of the technology and made a somewhat educated choice of a video camera over the course of a few days (see “A new video camera” for more details). I dipped my toes into the digital video waters and liked what they felt like. My last video camera was a Sony Handycam 8 and it has been (errr) more than a decade since that puppy has been in my less than videographer-qualified hands.Īll of that changed this month. I have plowed most of my attention into stills and have let the relentless passage of technology march me by. I hate to admit it, but I am a digital video newbie.
